What I Want For Xmas with Freya Langford-Sidebottom Gimp Tag Tutorial

For this tag you will want to get this amazing looking male tube by Freya Langford-Sidebottom which can currently be purchased at Artistically Inclined Licensing.  You must have a license to use art from AIL.
I am using a great PTU Christmas themed kit made by my friend Crys called Santa Baby.  You can get this kit at any of the stores she sells at.  Just head on over to her blog to check it all out- http://sinfullycreativescraps.blogspot.com/
And go grab the FTU mask # 444 by Insatiable Dreams

Here we go...

1.  Open new canvas sized at 800 x 800 and drag and drop tube of choice into canvas, delete all layers except 10, 5 and 6.  Slide the opacity over to 100 on layer 5.
2.  Drag and drop the following from kit into the canvas and place accordingly (right click, ADD ALPHA CHANNEL on each paper layer):
Frame 1
Element 34 (duplicate, 158 x 141)
Element 57 (flip, scale to 311 x 301)
place both of the white branches over the green branch and merge all 3 layers together then move down below the frame layer in layers box, duplicate and move below the other branch also rotate by -15 degrees.  Merge these two layers together.  Duplicate and flip to other side of frame.  Merge again.  Duplicate again.  Merge again and duplicate once more.  Really want to fluff this area out with foliage.  Click inside the frame with the fuzzy select tool, SELECT>GROW by 4 then SELECT>INVERT and make sure the green and white branches layer is the active layer aka selected in layers box, go to EDIT>CLEAR.
Element 48 (405 x 107, rotate 45 degrees)
Element 31
Element 25 (70 x 111)
Element 49 (302 x 292)
Element 45 (193 x 287)
Element 5 (357 x 550) behind frame layer
Element 55 (rotate 90 clockwise, flip and place the copy directly underneath the original.  Merge two layers together.  Duplicate and flip, place on other side of frame)
Element 47 (right click ALPHA TO SELECTION on frame layer in layers box, then click on this icicle layer to activate in layers box, go to SELECT>INVERT and use the eraser tool to erase anything that sticks over)
Paper 2 (660 x 660 then click inside the frame with the fuzzy select tool, SELECT>GROW by 4 then SELECT>INVERT activate paper layer in layers box and EDIT>CLEAR)
Paper 3
3.  Position tube layers with the layer named 6, the close up, go to COLORS>DESATURATE then up to MODE in layers box and choose HARD LIGHT.  Again you will want to crop this layer as you did the branches and papers above... click inside the frame with the fuzzy select tool, SELECT>GROW by 4 then SELECT>INVERT activate close up tube layer in layers box and EDIT>CLEAR.  At this time make sure that the copyright info to this tube is clearly displayed.  Include copyright symbol, artist's name, website and your license number if applicable.  If you want to use the one it comes with, that is fine also.
4.  Add a drop shadow to ALL elements except the branches and snowflakes at the back of the tag.  Just go to FILTERS>LIGHT & SHADOW>DROP SHADOW with settings at 2/2/15 on frame and tube but 3/3/6 on all others.
5.  Drag and drop the mask into the canvas and scale to 772 x 846.  Go to COLORS>INVERT and LAYER>TRANSPARENCY>COLOR TO ALPHA, then right click on it in layers box and choose ALPHA TO SELECTION then up to SELECT>INVERT and make sure paper 3 layer is activated in layers box and go to EDIT>CLEAR.  The paper should now be the mask.  You can delete the original mask layer now.
6.  I used a font called RifrafScriptSSK Bold in white then right clicked on text layer in layers box, ALPHA TO SELECTION, up to SELCT>GROW by 2 and add a new transparent layer, in which you will want to use the gradient fill tool and pic your foreground layer green and background layer red.  Click and drag upwards within the new layer.  Add noise by going to FILTERS>NOISE>RGB NOISE with correlated the only box checked and levels at 20/20/20/0.  Add drop shadow with same settings as used previously.
7.  Save as .xcf so you can come back layer by layer and make changes if the need arises.  When satisfied, remove the background layer then save as .png
Hope you liked this tutorial!

How to Make Seamless Tiles for Backgrounds in Gimp 2.8

This was always something I wanted to know how to do and just recently learned how.  I would like to show you how also :)
First step is to open a new canvas by going to FILE>NEW and size it 200 x 200 in the window that comes up.  Make sure the background color is of your choice.  I am using black. Press OK.
You will get a little square that is the background color.  Now we need to add something to this, so add a new layer like shown below.
Make sure TRANSPARENCY is the only selection in the window that comes up and click OK.
Now in this new layer, let's add a brush to it.  You can use any preset brush or even an image to your canvas, anything you want.  Just place it in the center of the canvas.  I am using a fireworks brush set from my favorite brush resource- http://www.obsidiandawn.com/
The brush's settings are illustrated below.
Next, go up to IMAGE>FLATTEN then to FILTERS>MAP>MAKE SEAMLESS.  Your tile should look similar to the one I have shown below...

Now, all you need to do is copy your design to the clipboard, it will appear as the first selection in the pattern box like shown below.  Make a new canvas by going to FILE>NEW at a larger size, I usually do around 1200 x 1200 to sample something.  Then add a new layer and click and hold and drag that first pattern into the new layer.
I prefer to add just a little more, go ahead, add more to it! I wanted more sparkles. If you like my sparkle effect in the final product at the end of this tutorial, you can find the sparkle effect in step 6 in THIS tutorial. I also added wordart to my example.

Feel free to save the paper I have made for you as a Commercial Use or Personal Use product.  It may only be reoffered for personal use.  DO NOT SHARE the paper alone, it has to be incorporated into a design.  DO NOT CLAIM AS YOUR OWN.  And please link back to this blog post or my blog when you use it so others know where it came from.  Click the preview to download.  Happy New Year!  xoxox

Punk It Tutorial and Freebie Cluster

Here is a tag I made and below is the tutorial on how to make it in Gimp.
You will want the PTU kit called Punk It 2 by Crystal's Creations, you can find her kits in many stores, just check out her blog to find all you need-  http://crystalsscrapcreations.blogspot.com/
I am using an exclusive tube by Selene Vargo, called Wild Amelia, which is from www.picsfordesign.com and you must have a license to use the art downloaded from PFD.
I am using a FTU mask #107 by Vayb's HERE

Let's get started.
1.  Open the tube of choice, duplicate and scale one layer to 440 x 509 and move to right side of canvas.  Make the other large layer invisible by clicking the little eye next to it in the layers box. Create a text layer with the copyright symbol, artist's name and website.  Name the layer copyright.  Delete the white background layer and the copyright layer that came in the PSD download.  Within the next step we will work with the larger version of the tube.
2.  Drag and drop Element 5 from the kit.  Duplicate and place the copy above the original.  Then using the rectangle select tool,  crop the bottom part of the copy of element 5 as shown in this preview-
then go up to EDIT>CLEAR.  Right click on the copy of element 5 in layers box and select MERGE DOWN.
Now drag and drop Paper 2 from kit into the canvas, place at bottom of layers box.  Right click and ADD ALPHA CHANNEL.  Then again using the rectangle select tool, crop within the frame we just put together and go to SELECT>INVERT and EDIT>CLEAR.  The paper should not be showing past the boundaries of the frame.  Click the eye again of the large tube layer to make it visible, then duplicate and flip the copy.  Place one in top portion and one in bottom portion of frame.  Then right click on the paper layer and choose ALPHA TO SELECTION and while the copy of the large tube is activated within the layers box, LAYER>CROP TO SELECTION.  Repeat on the original large copy.  You should have it looking like this:
Ok, merge the two large tube layers together then go to COLORS>DESATURATE.  Duplicate the layer, go to FILTERS>RENDER and choose LINE NOVA with the presets, click OK.  Change the mode of this layer to OVERLAY.  Mode is at the top right of layers box, where the drop down arrow is.
3.  Drag and drop the following from the kit into the canvas and place accordingly:
Paper 8 (right click, add alpha channel)
Paper 11 (right click, add alpha channel)-  Right click on the frame that we made in step 2 and ALPHA TO SELECTION then click on paper 11 to make active, go to SELECT>SHRINK by 4 then SELECT>INVERT and EDIT>CLEAR.  Make this layer be right above the frame layer.
Element 4- duplicate/flip copy
Element 30- duplicate
Element 13
Element 29- duplicate/flip copy
Element 27
Element 14
Element 11
Element 6
Element 9
Element 8
Element 28- duplicate
Element 21
Element 24

Add drop shadow by going to FILTERS>LIGHT & SHADOW>DROP SHADOW with settings at 3/3/6 to all layers above the frame except Paper 11.  Also add it to the frame.
4. Drag and drop the mask into the canvas, duplicate and flip.  Position so both sides are visible in the outer limits of the frame.  Then merge the two layers together.  Go to COLORS>INVERT and LAYER>TRANSPARENCY>COLOR TO ALPHA.  Then right click and ALPHA TO SELECTION.  Click on the paper 8 layer in layers box to activate, go to SELECT>INVERT and EDIT>CLEAR.  The paper is now the mask so you can delete the original mask layer.
5.  Add text to your tag, I used a font called KG Ways to Say Goodbye in black, right click ALPHA TO SELECTION then up to SELECT>GROW by 2 and filled a new transparent layer with a gradient of pink/purple.  Just click and drag upwards then unclick to make the gradient appear the way you like.  This may take a few tries, but practice makes perfect.  Add noise by going to FILTERS>NOISE>RGB NOISE with correlated checked only and settings at 20/20/20/0.  Again, SELECT>GROW by 1 this time, fill another new transparent layer with white.  Add drop shadow with same settings as above.
6.  Save your tag as. xcf so you can come in and make changes layer per layer if necessary.  When you're satisfied, save as .png

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial!
BTW- You can download the cluster frame that I put together for this tag (preview below) by clicking HERE.  Please note that this cluster frame is for personal use only and may not be shared.  If anyone wants a copy, send them to this blog post.  Thanks!  If you like it/use it let me know :)

IGirl Santa Stalker Gimp Tag Tutorial

For this tag, you will want the fantastic Pinup IGirl Tube from the talented FourXDesigns which requires a license to use when using the art.  You can get both the tube and license here- http://www.fourxdesigns-store.com/
The scrapkit I am using is my very own I HEART SANTA kit, which you can find at the stores I sell at, there is more info about it HERE.
I used 2 FTU masks by the awesome misfits http://creativemisfitscreations.blogspot.com/ Suzanne's mask HERE and Aqua's mask HERE.

So this is how we do it...

1.  Drag and drop mask from Christmas/Winter by Suzanne "winterxmas3" into canvas, go to COLORS>INVERT, LAYER>TRANSPARENCY>COLOR TO ALPHA, duplicate and place between lines.  Drag and drop mask from Sparkle/Bling by Aqua "AR315_mask158" and COLORS>INVERT, LAYER>TRANSPARENCY>COLOR TO ALPHA.
2. Drag and drop the following from kit into canvas, right click on each paper layer added to canvas within layers box and choose ADD ALPHA CHANNEL:
paper 1- scale to 600 x 600
paper 11- scale to 300 x 300 and duplicate
paper 2- This is going to be the new mask layer- will be in step 3...
paper 6- scale to 600 x 600
element 56- scale to 541 x 539.  Right click on layer in layers box and choose ALPHA TO SELECTION go to SELECT>SHRINK by 6 then click on paper 1 in layers box to activate,SELECT>INVERT and EDIT>CLEAR.  Merge paper layer into frame layer. Scale the merged layer to 295 x 295 and duplicate.  Merge the two layers again and place as shown.  Place the two paper 11's behind the frames and merge the papers together, using the fuzzy select tool, hold down shift to click and select BOTH the insides of the frames.  Go to SELECT>GROW by 2 then while paper 11 layer is activated in the layers box, go to SELECT>INVERT and EDIT>CLEAR.
element 55- scale to 532 x 546 then using the fuzzy select tool, click within inside of the frame, SELECT>GROW by 8, activate paper 6 layer in layers box, SELECT>INVERT and EDIT>CLEAR.
element 52- top layer
3.  Right click on Suzanne's mask,  ALPHA TO SELECTION, make paper 2 layer active in the layers box and go to SELECT>INVERT and EDIT>CLEAR. Delete original mask by Suzanne. Move this paper layer mask to the bottom of the layers box if you haven't done so already.
4.   Drag and drop the following into canvas and scale/arrange accordingly:
element 17
element 19- rotated
element 22
element 40
element 41- duplicate/flip
element 46- duplicate/flip
element 31- duplicate/flip
element 32- duplicate/flip
element 45
element 4
element 6
5.  Drag and drop tube of choice, I used the white red headed close up and the green red headed full body. Duplicate the close up, flip the copy then scale the original close up to 192 x 240.  Desaturate and colorize the copy of the close up to a red shade.  Mode set on multiply.  Scale the body to 175 x 587. Place accordingly.  For the close up, right click on paper 11 layer ALPHA TO SELECTION and SELECT>INVERT, EDIT CLEAR on tube layer.  Don't forget to add the copyright layer.  Copyright symbol, artist's name, website and license number if applicable, all should be on your signature tag.
6.  I wrote the text in Cooper Black in white, right click, ALPHA TO SELECTION, shrink by 2 and filled with a gold hue.  Duplicate that, add noise by going to FILTERS>NOISE>RGB NOISE with settings on correlated, 20/20/20 and 67.
7.  Add drop shadows to text, tube, elements and frames.  FILTERS>LIGHT & SHADOW> DROP SHADOW settings at 3/3/6 for everything except frames at 0/0/15.
8.  Save your tag as .xcf so you can go back in and make changes layer per layer if need be.  When you're satisfied, save as .png

Thanks for checking out the tut.  Hope you like :)

2013 Party with Tasha's Playground!

Here is a tag I made with a very cool 2013 New Year PTU themed kit called 2013 Party, made by my friend Tasha.  You can check out all the kits she has by visiting her blog HERE.
I am using a Pics For Design exclusive tube by Eugene Rzhevskii.  You will need a license to use any art purchased from www.picsfordesign.com and it must be displayed as well.
I used 2 FTU masks by Angela that are within the Christmas/Winter pack by the Creative Misfits HERE.

Ok, So let's get started on this tag :)
1.  Open up the tube of choice, scale the body to 493 x 627.  Click the eye next to the close up to make it invisible for now, we will work on it soon.  Delete any other layers.
2.  Drag and drop the following from the kit into your canvas, right click on each paper layer added within layers box and choose ADD ALPHA CHANNEL:
glitter spray
wordart 2
paper 7
fireworks 2
fireworks 3
fireworks 4
confetti
disco ball
paper 1- using ellipse select tool, create an oval then SELECT>INVERT and EDIT>CLEAR.  SELECT>NONE then right click on it in layers box, ALPHA TO SELECTION, SELECT>SHRINK by 7 and EDIT>CLEAR.
paper 8- using the fuzzy select tool, make sure the paper 1 layer is still the activated layer in the layers box, then click within the middle of the frame you just made with it, go to SELECT>GROW by 3 then SELECT>INVERT and EDIT>CLEAR.  This will make paper 8 fill the inside of the frame.
frame 2
paper 12- scale to 388 x 388 and duplicate, flip and align side by side, merge the two layers together, then using fuzzy select tool, click inside frame 2, hold down shift and click inside the second part of the frame and the third part.  Go to SELECT>GROW by 2 then make sure the paper layer is activated, SELECT>INVERT and EDIT>CLEAR.
lights
beads
confetti 2- duplicate
sparkler
beads 2
clock
drink
Position all as shown.  Add drop shadow to layers- confetti 2, sparkler, beads, paper 1,   by going to FILTERS>LIGHT & SHADOW>DROP SHADOW with settings at 3/3/6.  Then add a drop shadow with settings at 8/8/ 15 to layers- drink, clock, the tube of choice, lights and disco ball.
3.  Let's make the mask for the background... Add both the masks from her folder, while the second one is activated in layers box go to COLORS>INVERT and LAYER>TRANSPARENCY>COLOR TO ALPHA.  Then again COLORS>INVERT. Position it above the other mask and merge down.  Repeat the above steps.  Right click on the mask in layers box, ALPHA TO SELECTION, then activate paper 7 and SELECT>INVERT and EDIT> CLEAR.  Paper 7 is now the mask so you can delete the original.
4.  Click the eye next to the close up tube to make it visible, then in the layers box go to MODE and select  ADDITION.  This makes all the sparkly parts of the paper come thru.  A cool effect :)  Add the copyright to your tag, include artist's name, website and license number if applicable.
5.  I used a font called Sacramento in white.  I then duplicated the layer, went up to FILTERS>ALPHA TO LOGO>NEON with effect size 30, background black and  glow color hot pink.  Merge the tube layer and glow layer together and EDIT>COPY.  EDIT> UNDO to before you chose the filter.  EDIT>PASTE AS NEW LAYER.  Align behind text.  Then right click on the white text, ALPHA TO SELECTION then SELECT>SHRINK by 1, add a new layer and fill with black.
6.  Save your tag as .xcf so you can come back within layer by layer and make changes if need be.  When you're happy with the tag, save as .png

I even attempted to add an animation to this tag, and that was quite interesting, to say the least!  I hope Tasha likes the animated one LOL because it is the only time I will add animation to this tag :P I will not be adding the animation to this tutorial, but I promise to explain how to add a gif animation to your signature tag in Gimp soon :)

Winter Fun Rock Xmas Tutorial

Here is a tag I made with the art of Ismael Rac, using his art requires a license and you can get both the license and art at his store http://store.xeracx.net/
The scrap kit that I used is called Winter Fun by Crystal's Creations you can purchase that by going to her personal store HERE, or at any of the stores she sells at.  Check out her blog  HERE too!
I used a FTU template by Dee that you can get HERE
and I also used a FTU mask 64 by Simone which is in an AWESOME pack of masks HERE, thanks Creative Misfits  ♥
 Ok, let's get started!

1.  Open the template, remove all wording layers.  Then remove the top white squares and top blue squares layers.
2.  Drag and drop the following papers from the kit into the canvas, then right click in the layers box and ADD ALPHA CHANNEL to each:
 Paper 11
Paper 1
Paper 2
Paper 6
Paper 4
Paper 3- duplicate
Paper 11 is going to be your new mask, which we will cover on the next step, so for now, click the eye on it to make it invisible... We are going to be cutting some of these papers into the layers of the template. First, right click on the white square layer of template within the layers box, ALPHA TO SELECTION, then up to SELECT>GROW by 4.  Click on the paper 1 layer in layers box to make it active, then to EDIT>CLEAR.  Right click on the blue oval in template, ALPHA TO SELECTION, SELECT> INVERT, click on paper 2 layer to activate, EDIT>CLEAR.  Right click on small blue circle in layers box ALPHA TO SELECTION, SELECT>INVERT, click on paper 6 layer to activate, EDIT>CLEAR.  Right click on blue strip in template, SELECT>SHRINK by 2 then make paper 4 active and EDIT>CLEAR.  Right click on bottom blue squares, ALPHA TO SELECTION, SELECT>INVERT, click on paper 3 to activate, EDIT>CLEAR.  Make the copy of paper 3 invisible for now.
3.  Ok, for the mask, just drag it into the canvas then position one side so you can see it over the top right of the template, then duplicate and go to LAYER>TRANSFORM and rotate 180.  Position the copy to the bottom left side.  then using the free select tool, draw a diagonal line from upper left corner of tag to bottom right corner and make a triangle over the whole upper right portion of the canvas, covering that side of the mask copy.  EDIT>CLEAR.  Merge the two masks together by right clicking and MERGE DOWN.  Go to COLORS>INVERT then to LAYER>TRANSPARENCY>COLOR TO ALPHA.  It should be transparent, so right click and ALPHA TO SELECTION, click on paper 11 to activate and SELECT>INVERT and EDIT>CLEAR. Paper 11 is now the mask, so you can delete the original mask layer.
4.  Add your tube of choice, I played this one up a bit, I hope you understand what all I did lol I am going to try to explain it carefully... with the #2 psd file in the Rock Xmas file- the half body, delete the earring, hair layers, green, red and tattoo as well as the copyright and background layers.   Merge the rest of the tube layers together, duplicate and make the copy invisible for a moment. And then scale down the original by right clicking and SCALE LAYER to  314 x 491.  Add drop shadow, FILTERS>LIGHT & SHADOW>DROP SHADOW settings at 4/4/9.  Merge down into drop shadow.  Add the #3 psd file- the close up file now. Again, deleting the same layers. Duplicate and make copy invisible for a moment. COLORS>DESATURATE on original.  Position as shown, right click on paper 6 and ALPHA TO SELECTION, SELECT>INVERT and click on desaturated tube layer to activate, EDIT CLEAR. Now make the half body visible again and duplicate, and scale the duplicate down to 314 x 491 then position in front of the white squares... you will need 4 total copies for this. The face for first,  boobs for second, hand for third and the 4th the mouth.  ALPHA TO SELECTION and EDIT>CLEAR each layer.  With the larger half body that hasn't been made into layers of the template yet, desaturate and duplicate.  Place both on each side of the white square layer.  ALPHA TO SELECTION and EDIT>CLEAR each layer.  Merge these 2 layers together. Make the face tube layer visible again, and place in between the others within the white square layer, following the same steps.  Then go to the MODE option in layers box and choose grain merge.  All the tube layers should be in the right place now.  Make sure that at this time you also include the artist's name, wensite and license number- if applicable- within your tag.  It's also a good idea to save as you go, save as .xcf so you can come back in and make changes per layer at a later time if the need comes up.
5.  Add the following elements by dragging them into the canvas:
Element 2
Element 3
Element 9
Element 11
Element 32
Scale each one down appropriately. Add drop shadows to elements and layers you wish with the same settings as used before.
6.  I used a font called Angel Toes in black.  I made the copied layer of paper 3 visible then right clicked on the text, ALPHA TO SELECTION, SELECT> GROW by 2, SELECT>INVERT, paper 3 activated and EDIT>CLEAR.  Add a drop shadow.
7.  Make sure that your background is transparent.  Then use the rectangle select tool to crop inside the canvas to keep all ytou want to keep, and go to IMAGE>CROP TO SELECTION.  Save your image as .png and you're done!
Hope you liked this tutorial :)

SNOW COLD! Animated Snow in Gimp Tutorial

Here is a tag I made with the fun winter kit by Creative Scraps by Crys called Snow Cold!  It is PTU and you can find it at the stores she sells at.
This was the first time I made animation like this, with blustering snow!  If you want to try this out, grab the FTU mask #444 by Insatiable Dreams HERE
And your tube of choice.  I am using a tube I purchased at a store that no longer exists, by the very talented Keith Garvey.  However, you can still find this tube and many other wonderful tubes of his at his own store- http://garv-girlspsptubes.pinnaclecart.com/index.php?p=home  When using his art, you must also have a license number and have it displayed within your creation.

Ok let's start on this tag.
1.  Open a new canvas, size 800 x 800.  Drag and drop the following papers and elements into your canvas:
Paper 3
Paper 7-flip
Frame 4
Element 28- duplicate twice, scale down front two
Element 30
Element 21
Element 38
Element 37- duplicate, flip
Element 50
Element 25
Element 24
Element 52
Element 26
Element 19
Element 31- flip
Element 27
Arrange all these layers as shown, you may have to scale a few down just a bit.  Add drop shadows to elements 27, 26, 52, 50, 30, all the copies of 28, and frame 4 by going to FILTERS>LIGHT & SHADOW> DROP SHADOW with settings at 3/3/7 black.  For element 25, you will need to right click on element 50 in the layers box and choose ALPHA TO SELECTION and click back on element 25 in the layers box to make it the active layer, then zoom in and use the eraser tool.  SELECT>NONE then also add a drop shadow with same settings to this element.
2.  Using the rectangle select tool, crop a selection of the frame, making sure that paper 7 is selected as the active layer.  Go to LAYER>CROP TO SELECTION.
3.  For the mask, add the mask as a new layer, scale to 956 x 698, then COLOR>INVERT and LAYER>TRANSPARENCY>COLOR TO ALPHA.  Right click on the mask ALPHA TO SELECTION then click on paper 3 in layers box.  SELECT>INVERT and EDIT>CLEAR.  The paper is now the mask.  Delete the original mask layer.
4.  Add your tube of choice, don't forget to include all the copyright info- artist's name, website, and license number if applicable.  Add drop shadow to the full body tube.  For the effect in the window frame, I took the close up tube and COLOR>DESATURATE then went to mode at the top of the layers box and chose overlay.  I then duplicated the tube.  Again, make a rectangle selection with the rectangle select tool around the frame and go to SELECT>INVERT and while the close up layer is selected, EDIT>CLEAR on both the close up tube layers we just put in the window frame.
5.  Add your text, I used a font called Vladimir Script in white.  Right click, ALPHA TO SELECTION, SELECT>GROW by 2, and fill with a powder blue shade.  Add a drop shadow.
6.  Save now as a .xcf so you can come back and make changes per layer if need be at a later time.
7.  Merge all layers down UNTIL YOU GET TO THE SHADOW ON THE FRAME.  The animated snow needs to be behind this.  So stop, and then click the next layer and merge down.  You will have 2 layers then- the top is everything with the shadow of the frame and above, and the bottom is the paper and mask.  Add a new WHITE layer, go to COLOR>INVERT then FILTERS>NOISE>HSV with settings at 8/0/0/255 then FILTERS>LIGHT AND SHADOW>SPARKLE and just slide the spike density all the way over to the right.  Click OK.  Then go back up to COLOR>INVERT then to LAYER>TRANSPARENCY>COLOR TO ALPHA to make it transparent.  Make 2 copies of all the current 3 layers in the layers box so you will have a total of 9 layers.  Arrange as top with tube layer, snow layer, paper layer, tube layer, snow layer, paper layer, tube layer, snow layer, paper layer... Now, on the top snow layer, drag the snow layer up a bit.  Use the rectangle select tool to crop the snow within the window area LAYER>CROP TO SELECTION.  Merge the top 3 layers together (tube layer, snow layer, paper layer).  Make it an invisible layer and then work on the second snow layer.  Do not move this layer, but again, crop this like you just did in the first snow layer.  Merge the three layers together and make it invisible too.  Now work on the last snow layer, drag it down a little.  Crop to selection like you did with the other snow layers.  Merge these three layers together, then make all the layers visible again.  Make sure white is your background color then right click and REMOVE ALPHA CHANNEL in each of the 3 layers.  While the top layer is selected go up to IMAGE>MODE with the color dithering chosen to be Floyd-Steinberg (reduced color bleeding).  Click CONVERT.  If a window comes up asking to crop, just hit OK.
6.  Export your image as .gif with  As animation checked and Loop forever checked and Use dealy entered for all frames checked.  In the box for delay time (milliseconds) choose about 300. Click Export.  Save your image to a site like Photobucket or Fotki to keep the animation.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!

FTU Forum Set Template with Icy Text Tutorial

I found a cool tutorial on YouTube HERE that shows how to make the icy text effect.  I love this effect and I made my own, shorter version of how to do this using Gimp. I also wanted to offer a free to use forum set template for you to use with this effect!
So this is how my tutorial goes!
1.  Open a new canvas, size 600 x 250, flood fill with black.  Next create your text layer.  Now right click on it in the layers box and choose ALPHA TO SELECTION.  Go to SELECT>FEATHER settings at 8, OK. Add a new transparent layer and flood fill with white.  Duplicate the layer and right click and merge down to make it less transparent.  Click the eye on the original text layer to make it invisible.
2.  Right click on the original text layer, ALPHA TO SELECTION, SELECT>FEATHER by 4 this time, then click on the top layer in the layers box (the one you made in step 1) and go to EDIT>CLEAR.  Again, duplicate the layer and merge down.  Your image should look similar to the one below.
3.  To add the icy effect to the text, just add a new transparent layer then go up to FILTERS>RENDER>NATURE>FLAME.  In the box that pops up, drag the brightness slider all the way to the right then click EDIT at the top, this window will appear.  Choose whichever option you like, you can click RANDOMIZE to find one you like.
Click ok.  This is the ice :)  All you have to do here is find a spot of it that you like, and click on the clone tool.  Then hold down control and click on that spot to copy it.  Click the eye on this layer to make it invisible now.  Next, right click on the original text layer and ALPHA TO SELECTION.  Add a new transparent layer and while the clone tool is selected, make upwards strokes per letter.  When you have all the letters done and like the effect, SELECT>NONE.  You can delete the ice effect layer that you made invisible now.
4.  Add a new transparent layer and choose white as the foreground color and a blue shade for the background color.  Click on the gradient fill tool, and place the cursor right at the bottom of the text and drag upwards just a little bit.  Make sure this layer is set behind all other layers/at the bottom of the layers box.  Your image should look similar to what I have shown below.

5.  Ok, now on the ice layer within the text, go up to COLORS>COLORIZE until it is a nice light blue shade.  When it is the color you like, merge the top layer (feathered text) down with the icy layer.  Duplicate and merge down to make it less transparent.
6.  Any layers that are invisible at this point can be deleted.  You now need to add a transparent layer and flood fill with bloack.  Go to FILTERS>NOISE>HSV NOISE with the value slider all the way to the right.  Click OK.  Now go to FILTERS>LIGHT&SHADOW>SPARKLE with the spike points set to 11 then click OK.  Go up to COLORS>INVERT then LAYER>TRANSPARENCY>COLOR TO ALPHA.  Again to COLORS>INVERT.
7.  With the black background layer, go to COLORS>INVERT then right click and ADD ALPHA CHANNEL.  Move this layer to the top of the layers box.  Right click ALPHA TO SELECTION>SHRINK by 4 and EDIT>CLEAR.  Go to FILTERS>NOISE>RGB NOISE with correlated checked and independent unchecked, levels at 20/20/20/0.
That is it for the banner, now to make it easy, we all like easy!!!  Add a new layer, white, sized at 200 x 200 to the canvas.  Drag this to the area you like best.
Delete the Merry Christmas layer.  Right click on the new white layer and choose ALPHA TO SELECTION.  IMAGE>CROP TO SELECTION.  Then SELECT>SHRINK by 4, EDIT>CLEAR.  Add noise with same settings as previously mentioned.
Save these as .xcf so you can come back and get into them at anytime you need to!  Add your tubes, images, etc to it.  I hope you like this tutorial and freebie!  Click the image below to get your freebie PSD forum set with this design.  It is for PERSONAL USE ONLY.    Leave some holiday love :)

Freebie CU Heart Cookie

Here is a commercial use freebie for you all- it's a heart cookie that I made and I am also gonna show you how I made it!
If you don't know how to make a heart shape in Gimp, I have a tutorial for that HERE.
All you need to do is open your heart shape, then colorize it to a color you'd think crust would be.  Add some texture to it... I am using the slate preset pattern in Gimp.  Just right click on the heart shape, ALPHA TO SELECTION, add new layer, click on the pattern in pattern box below layer box and then click the fill tool and fill within the new layer.

Then click on the MODE arrow and choose OVERLAY.

Duplicate the layer.  SELECT>NONE.
Right click on the top layer and choose MERGE VISIBLE LAYERS.
Now go to FILTERS>DECOR>ADD BEVEL.  Set it around 10 or so.
Next, click on the free select tool (looks like a lasso) and start drawing around the inside of the heart.

You want this to be "messy" because this is going to be your frosting layer.  Go all around it and connect the ends.  The selection will blink like marching ants when ready.  Add a new layer, and fill the inside with white.  Then SELECT>NONE.  Next, go to FILTERS>BLUR>GAUSSIAN BLUR with settings as shown in the image below.
Click OK then go to FILTERS>DECOR> ADD BEVEL with levels at 5.  Right click and MERGE VISIBLE LAYERS.
Now create a new layer and use the rectangle select tool to make a small selection. Then go to SELECT>GROW by 4 or more to make it look like a sprinkle!  Fill that layer in with your choice of color.  I am using a green shade.  Then use the rotate tool and duplicate the layer and just place a whole bunch of them all over the frosting.  Wen you have them where you like, click the eye button on the cookie to make it invisible. Right click on the sprinkle layer on top and MERGE VISIBLE LAYERS.  Now all the sprinkles are in one layer.  You can repeat this step again with another color or shape (I added circles too).
So I want to add some shine to these, so what I did- there are other ways to do this but I like the results this way- is right click ALPHA TO SELECTION and filled a new layer with white.  Then I moved it so just a sliver of the white was off of the sprinkles- I added a drop shadow just so you can see where the white is exactly.

Then right click on the color sprinkle again and ALPHA TO SELECTION, click on the white layer to make it active in layers box and go to EDIT>CLEAR.  Drag the white layer over to look like it has light reflected on it.  Then slide the opacity down a bit. Here's a close up of what the sprinkles will look like.
When you're finished, merge your layers and save your work!  Now you have a yummy treat after all that work.  Good job lol :D
My cookie is available to download for commercial use... Just click the preview below to get your copy!  Leave a thanks if you like this freebie and tutorial :)

Of Christmas' Past Forum Set Tutorial

Here is a forum set that I made using the PTU kit called Of Christmas' Past by Creative Scraps by Crys and a Pics For Design bonus tube by Zlata_M. Tubes from PFD require a license to be displayed when using the art.     I am going to give you a tutorial on how to make this forum set in Gimp.

1.  Open a new image 600 x 250 then drag and drop Papers 16, 13 and 6 into the canvas.  Right click on each paper layer and choose ADD ALPHA CHANNEL.  Then right click on the background layer and choose ALPHA TO SELECTION go up to IMAGE>CROP TO SELECTION.  Now all the layers should be 650 x 250.  Now you want to make the outside frame, so go to SELECT>SHRINK by 4 and click on the Paper 6 layer in the layers box to make it the active layer and  EDIT>CLEAR, SELECT>NONE and again right click on the background layer and ALPHA TO SELECTION, click on Paper 13 to make active, SELECT>SHRINK by 7 and EDIT>CLEAR.  Add noise to this layer by going to FILTERS>NOISE>RGB NOISE with only correlated checked and levels at 20/20/20/0.  Merge Paper 6 and Paper 13 together by right clicking and choosing MERGE DOWN, rename this layer "FRAME".
2.  Now drag and drop the following elements from the kit:
30
36
1
35- duplicate and move to left
37
3- duplicate and move to left
frame 4
12
32
55
23- duplicate and scale down
20- duplicate and flip and move to left

You may have to scale a few elements down just a bit to get them proportionate.
Within the frame, I clicked inside using the  fuzzy select tool and SELECT>GROW by 15 then SELECT>INVERT and clicked on the layers in the layer box that appeared inside and hit EDIT>CLEAR.
Using the text tool, write your message to santa over the scroll, I used a font called Precious.
3.  Add a drop shadow to elements 20 & copy, 55 and 32 by going to FILTERS>LIGHT AND SHADOW>DROP SHADOW with settings at 5/5/10.
4.  Add the tube of your choice,  keep it large and place as the layer right above the Paper 16 layer.  Make a duplicate and click on the eye next to it to make it invisible in the layers box.  Working on the visible tube layer, click MODE and choose OVERLAY.  Now unclick the eye to make the duplicate visible again and move above element 32 (santa scroll), duplicate the layer and click the MODE arrow and select SCREEN which will make it glow a bit, just slide the opacity slider in the layers box down if it appears too strong.  Remember at this step to also include the correct copyright info- copyright symbol, artist's name, website and license number when applicable.
5.  Write your name on your tag, I used the font called Chanel in red and gave it noise with same settings as step 1, right click, ALPHA TO SELECTION, grow by 2. Add new layer, fill with white and add a drop shadow.  Save your tag as .xcf so you may be able to go back within layer by layer to make any necessary changes to the tag if you need to.  When you're satisfied with your tag, save it as a .png.

FOR THE AVATAR- just a few changes...  Add a new layer, scaled at 200 x 200, white!  Position this layer above the tube layer, then move the tube layers down below element 12 (snow drift).  Right click on the new white layer you've made and ALPHA TO SELECTION then up to IMAGE>CROP TO SELECTION.  Drag and drop Paper 13 and 6 back into this canvas, and repeat the same steps for these papers as you did in step one for the banner.  Add copyright- in avatars, artist's name and your license is all that's needed.  Add your name.  Save it as .xcf so you can make changes if need be, and when done save as .png.  You're done!
Hope you enjoyed this tutorial :)
