"A Mother's Love" Gimp Tutorial and Template Freebie

Mother's Day is coming up! It's NEXT weekend! What are your plans?

I am just glad that I get to spend it with my kiddos :) I love them more and more everyday... A mother's love never stops growing. Now I have to show them off a bit! LOL

Here is a tag I made with this holiday in mind...

FIRST, before we begin the tutorial, you will want to download this template I made for this tag. Just click on the preview to go to 4shared! If you download, please leave some love :)

You'll want the kit called Mothers Celebration by Creative Scraps by Crys, which you can purchase HERE or HERE.

The tube I chose to use in this tag is a PTU tube by Regan Kubecek and it is called Baby Love, which requires a license to use from Dreamscape Imaging and you can purchase it HERE.

And I used a mask by Melissaz Creationz- go grab the FTU pack of 20 masks HERE.

Let's get started!

1. Open the template and delete the background layer and my credit info. Then go to IMAGE>CANVAS SIZE and adjust the size to 900 x 900. This will give you plenty of room to work with :) You may want to link all your layers and move them over a tad bit just to make it more centered.

2. Open paper4 in the scrapkit. Go to LAYER>TRANSPARENCY>ADD ALPHA CHANNEL. Resize the paper width-wise so it is stretched mostly across your canvas.

3. Open mask 1 from the mask pack from Melissaz Creationz. Go to COLORS>INVERT then LAYER>TRANSPARENCY>COLOR TO ALPHA. Duplicate the mask layer and move both side by side and to the very bottom of all layers. Merge these layers by right clicking the layer in the layer box. Right click again and choose ALPHA TO SELECTION then click on the paper layer to make it active. Go to SELECT>INVERT then EDIT>CLEAR. Then SELECT>NONE. Delete the masks you merged together and keep this new paper mask.

4. Open as layers the branches in scrapkit. Position it between the orange and green layers of the template. Add a drop shadow by going to FILTERS>LIGHT AND SHADOW>DROP SHADOW and adjust settings to 1, 1, 3. Then merge the branches with the drop shadow. Duplicate this layer and flip it. Position them accordingly.

5. Repeat step 4 with the babys breath and flower 2 in the scrapkit, but don't worry about the drop shadow. However with these two, you will want to rotate them a bit. When you have both sides covered the way you like, click on the rectangle select tool and make a rectangle over bottom half of template. Then go to EDIT>CLEAR then SELECT>NONE. We don't want stems hanging out all over the place :)

6. Ok now above the green layers, you want to open as layers the heart and frame 5. Fit the frame over the heart and then use the magic wand tool to select inside the frame. Then you'll want to SELECT>GROW by 6. Unlink the layers and click on the heart layer. Go to SELECT INVERT and EDIT>CLEAR. Merge the 2 layers and resize to 324 x 305 then duplicate and flip the copy.

7. Open as layers the bow (pink) and resize to 155 x 110 then place on the heart that you made in step 6. Duplicate and flip the copy, place accordingly.

8. Do the same with the ribbon 4. Place above the bow layer. Then duplicate and flip the copy. When they are placed right, use the rectangle select tool to cover the loose ends that go off to each side and EDIT>CLEAR on each ribbon layer.

9. Add the tube. I used tube 2 in the tube pack. Give it a drop shadow of 1,1,3.
10. Now open as layers the leaves 3. Rotate it and set it on one side of the tube and use the rectangle select tool again to crop off the stem end. Duplicate and flip the copy and place on other side of tube- these fit so nicely at the bottom of the tube. Just move them behind the drop shadow you added to the tube.

11. Open as layers the bird form the scrapkit. Resize to 153 x 124 and then flip it. Place it at the top of the green layers in template.

12. Add the butterfly from the scrapkit. Resize to 110 x 110. Duplicate and flip the copy and place on the left and right side of the template.

13. I used the font Tempus Sans for the text. I picked the color from the template. Then I added a new layer and right clicked in the layers box on the text layer ALPHA TO SELCTION and then went up to SELECT>GROW by 2 and filled the new layer with a light grew color. Then I went to FILTERS>NOISE>RGB NOISE and 20, 20, 20, 0. I clicked on the red text layer again and went to FILTERSADD BEVEL and the thickness was at 5. Then added a drop shadow to the grey text layer using 4, 4, 9 as the settings.

14. Do not forget to add your copyright information to your tag!!!!! Include artist's name, website and license number if applicable.

I hope you found this tutorial fun and I hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day :) xoxox

Gimp Tutorial "Spring is in the Air"

For this tag, you will need to purchase the beautiful kit from AW Designs called "Spring Awakes" HERE or HERE. It is available after April 15th :) I wanted to show the preview of this kit for you to see how many great elements there are with it!

I used the tube "Spring is in the Air" by Katerina Koukiotis, which at the time of purchase, I got from Dreamscape Imaging. However she is no longer there :(

The wordart I used is made by me, snag it HERE!

And I used a mask from Melissaz Creationz, which you can go HERE to get :)

Let's get started!

1. Create a new image- 900 x 900, go to LAYERS>TRANSPARENCY>COLOR TO ALPHA.

2. Open up paper 9 in scrapkit, LAYER>TRANSPARENCY>ADD ALPHA CHANNEL.

3. Open your mask (14) from MC and resize to 720 X 720. Go to COLORS>INVERT. Then LAYERS>TRANSPARENCY>COLOR TO ALPHA. Right click on mask layer in layers box. Alpha to Selection. Click on paper 9 layer in layers box. Go to SELECT>INVERT and EDIT CLEAR. Delete mask layer and SELECT>NONE. Then change the opacity to 60 for the new mask layer.

4. Open paper 13 in scrapkit, repeat step 2, but resize to 700 x 700.

5. Open flower frame (item 19 in scrapkit) amd resize to 756 x 751. Use rotate tool and get the flowers more on the left side.

6. Use circle selection tool to crop the paper out. Frame the frame, then click on the paper layer then SELECT>INVERT and EDIT>CLEAR.

7. Now you want to open the little swirly thing in the scrapkit (18) and scale it down to 412 x 314. Flip it and then duplicate and flip. Duplicate again and rotate 180 degrees then duplicate this layer and flip it (total of 4 of these swirly things)... Maneuver them so they stick out between the paper layer and new mask layer. It took me a bit to get them how I liked them, so just be patient LOL :)

8. Next, add your tube underneath your flower frame layer. I kept both layers of her and you'll see why here in a second... With the tube that has no basket, add a drop shadow by FILTERS>LIGHT AND SHADOW>DROPSHADOW and I had the levels at 4/4/9. Then add a drop shadow to your flower frame with the same settings. Lastly, the tube with the basket will fit on top of all these layers, creating some depth to the tube layer and making her dress look like it's flowing off the frame.

9. I opened the ladybug (item 23) in the scrapkit and scaled it to 50 x 60 and rotated it a bit.

10. Open as layers item 39 in scrapkit and resize it to 353 x 473... Place it under the tube layers and make it so it looks like the butterfly from the tube is setting on it. Then crop off the bottom portion so it doesn't show.

11. Add the wordart but resize it down and use the perspective tool to get it to bend a bit... Rotate it too a lil bit if you want. Then add a white drop shadow with settings at 2/2/5.

12. Add your text to your tag. I used the font Tingle Institute in white then added a new layer and used the color picker tool to get a shade from the tube and bucket filled that into the new layer. I added noise by FILTERs>NOISE>RGB NOISE and the levels stayed at 20/20/20 and 0. Then I rotated the text, merged the 2 layers and went to FILTERS>DECOR>ADD BEVEL with the thickness at 5. Then I added a black drop shadow to this still with settings at 2/2/5.

13. Remember to add your copyright information to your tag!

14. Use the rectangle select tool to crop out your tag. Go to IMAGE>CROP TO SELECTION. Save as .xcf in case you need to come back in and change something, then save as .png.

I hope you had a good time with this tutorial, thanks for looking :) xoxox

"Bewitched" Gimp Tutorial with FTU kit "Gothic Cutie"

This is a tag almost any beginner Gimper can make...

All you need is to get the tube "Bewitched" made by Katerina Koukiotis at Dreamscape Imaging (which requires a license to use) HERE.

And you will need to download the FTU kit made by Crystal's Creations called "Gothic Cutie" HERE.

Let's get started.

1. Create a new image- size 800 x 800.

2. Go to LAYER>TRANSPARENCY>COLOR TO ALPHA. Click ok.

3. Open as new layer your tube.

4. Open as layers the moon from the scrapkit. Position it behind the tube layer.

5. Open as layers the bob (barb) wire layer. Go to LAYER>SCALE LAYER to 539 x 83 and position at bottom part of the tube, but in front of the layer.

6. Open the red rose layer in scrapkit and resize to 137 x 124. Then duplicate it and flip it. Place the roses in the right places above the barb wire layer.

7. Next, you want to use the color picker tool to get a shade of red from the roses. Then create a new layer and use the rectangle selection tool to frame exactly around the size of the tube layer. Go to SELECT>GROW by 10. Then use the bucket fill tool to fill this new selected layer.

8. Add noise by FILTERS>NOISE>RGB NOISE with settings at 20/20/20/0.

9. Open the blood splot in scrapkit and place in corner. Duplicate and flip the copy, then place the copy in the corner diagonal from where it is now.

10. Type in your text of choice in white. I used the font called Pristina. Add a new layer, then on the text layer right click in layers box and choose alpha to selection. Then SELECT>GROW by 2 and fill the new layer with the same color you used in step 7... add noise to this layer if you like (I did).

11. Add drop shadows to the text, the new layer you made in step 7, the roses, the barb wire and the moon.

12. DO NOT FORGET TO ADD YOUR COPYRIGHT INFO! Add the copyright symbol, the artist's name and website as well as your license number to use the tube.

13. Using the rectangle selection tool, crop your work. Then to IMAGE>CROP TO SELECTION. Save as an .xcf in case you need to come back through and fix something. Then save as a .png

Sexy Template Tag Tutorial

For this tut, I used my template "Sexy" which you can find HERE.

I used the awesome FTU scrapkit by Tamie at Addictive Pleasures called Playbunny 2011.

And the Naughty Bunny tube by Ismael Rac and you have to have a license for her... If you choose to use her, you can purchase at http://www.xeracx.net/

The font I used is called 2Peas Heart's Delight.

Let's get started :)

1. Open up the template. Remove background layer and my credit info.

2. Open as layers glitter in scrapkit and resize to 535 x 535 and duplicate and flip the copy. Place these layers on the bottom of the layers box. Position them so you think it looks good...

3. Open as layers Paper 11 in scrapkit and position above white circle layer. Add an alpha channel. R click on whitecircles layer in temp. Alpha to Selection. SELECT>INVERT. click on paper layer and EDIT>CLEAR. Remove white cirlce layer.

4. R click on blackbar on template. Alpha to Selection. SELECT>SHRINK by 3. Open as layers Paper 3. Add alpha channel. SELECT>INVERT and EDIT>CLEAR.

5. Click back on blackbar in template. Add noise. FILTERS>NOISE>RGB NOISE 20/20/20/0

6. Open as layers Eyelet Ribbon and position over Lblacksq in temp. Duplicate and place over Rblacksq. Then use rectangle tool to cut off these 2 layers above the word sexy in template.

7. Open as layers the pin in scrapkit. Duplicate and flip then position on each side of the blackbar.

8. Open up tube of choice. Frame her inside the word sexy (front) in template. Duplicate and flip. Open it again and rezize and duplicate and flip. Pick which ones you want in front. Then right click on those layers and Alpha to Selection, and then click on the tube behind and go to EDIT>CLEAR. This may take a few tries to get it the way you want it exactly. I also made the layer new layer invisible to help me achieve what I wanted, then made it visible again when I was done. Add noise to the new layer.

9. Open up the tube one more time and scale it down so it fits just right in the middle of the tag... For this particular tube, I scaled it down to 183 x 342.

10. Add the heartlinks from the kit and scale to 644 x 89.

11. Add the text of your choice in white. I used my name, then grew it by 2, added a layer and filled with black then added another layer and filled with the color i picked from the tube's hair.

12. Do not forget to add your copyright info, and license number if applicable!

Thank you for looking, hope you enjoyed the tut :) xoxox

Gimp Tutorial "Passion and Sinz" Animated

To make this tag, you need to have the kit called Passion made by AW Design and it can be purchased HERE or HERE.

I used a tube by Rebecca Sinz, which needs a license to be used and can be purchased at DSI.

The mask is from Mask Pack 2 at TallChic D-Zines.

And the font I used is called ItHornet.

Let's get started...

1. Open a new canvas- 700 x 500 (you will crop it down later)

2. Make the background transparent by going to LAYERS>TRANSPARENCY>COLOR TO ALPHA. Then open up as layers paper Rose 4 and scale to 396 x 395. Right click on this layer in layers box and choose Alpha to Selection... Then go to SELECT>GROW by 5. Use the color pick tool to get the light shade in the paper. Add a new layer and fill with that color. Add another layer by growing by 5, but fill with the dark shade in the paper. Merge these 2 new layers you made and add noise by going to FILTERS>NOISE>RGB NOISE and set at 20/20/20/0.

3. Open as layers mask 5. Go to COLORS>INVERT then LAYER>TRANSPARENCY. Resize to 403 x 493 and adjust the color by going to COLORS>COLORIZE to a dusty pink shade. Change the opacity to 58. Move to bottom layer behind the merged layers you made in step 2.

4. Open as layers 18 in the kit (pink and purple wrap) and scale to 308 x 46 and position over the paper and added layers so it appears to wrap around.

5. Open as layers 10 (the decoration/embellishment) and position in middle of paper and added layers. Use colorize to get it to a dark purple color. Then right click on the Rose4 layer and choose Alpha to Selection. Go to SELECT>INVERT and click on the layer 10 layer then click EDIT>CLEAR.

6. Add your tube to the equation. Add a drop shadow to the tube by going to FILTERS>LIGHT AND SHADOW>DROP SHADOW and have the settings at 4/4/9... Crop it out just by using the rectangle select tool to get it right.

7. Write out you name or whatever text you'd like and add noise. Add a drop shadow with same settings as above.

8. Do NOT forget to add your copyright information to your tag when using your tube! Include copyright symbol, artist's name and website as well as your license number and name if applicable.

9. Save as .xcf or.psd then merge all the layers in layer box until you get to the layer 10 (embellishment). SKIP THIS LAYER and click on the next layer and merge the rest of the layers. You should end up with 3 layers. You want 9. SO make 2 copies of each layer. Then reorder them so they are back in the order they were when there was 3.

10. Right click in layers box on layer 10. Choose Alpha to Selection. Then add noise to that layer. Find the copy a couple layers down and add nosie to this layer too, and one more time to the last layer. THEN merge the layers so there are 3 complete layers. Make sure white is your background color and then right click on each layer in layers box and choose Remove Alpha Channel.

11. Use the rectangle selection tool to crop out excess space around the edges. Save the tag as a .gif and when the dialog box comes up, make sure to click save as animation and the delay entered for all frames... I used 100 milliseconds. Then upload tag to a photosharing site like Photobucket or Fotki, etc.

I hope you found this tutorial helpful! Animation is a few more steps to take, but sometimes adds a little more character to your tag and is usually pleasant to the eye :) Thanks for viewing!

B&B Template and Tutorial

Click the template above to download from 4shared & please leave me a comment if you do :) xoxox

Here is a tag from me with a Gimp tutorial using this template and the kit I made called Birds & Bees, which you can purchase at Twilight Scraps. The poser is included in this kit and is made by the very talented Amber Stroupe and her blog is http://silentmiseries.blogspot.com :)

Let's get started!

1. Open the template up and recolorize the Lgreysquare and Rgreysquare to a shade of yellow.

2. Get the mask #412 from Insatiable Dreams. Open it and then go to COLOR>INVERT then LAYER>TRANSPARENCY>COLOR TO ALPHA. Then open up Paper14 from the Birds & Bees kit. Add alpha channel to the paper. Then right click back on the mask layer

in the layers box and choose Alpha to Selection. Go to SELECT>INVERT and click on the paper layer and go to EDIT>CLEAR. Keep this as the very bottom layer.

3. Open as layers hearts2 and scale layer to 374 x 334. Duplicate then position both layers in appropriate areas. Move these layers above the mask/paper layer in step 2.

4. Open as layers ricrac4, then rotate it so it is parallel to Lblacksquare in template. Duplicate this layer several times (I made 5 copies of it- total of 6) and position each copy slightly below the last. Merge all the ricrac layers you made. Use the Fuzzy Select tool to get the Rblacksquare selected, click on the Lblacksquare in layers box and then hold down the shift key and fuzzy select that too so both squares will be selected. SELECT>INVERT, EDIT>CLEAR... Choose the Change the opacity of this layer to 50.

5. Open as layers Lissa pose 1. Scale layer to 2485 x 2544 then tuck between leftcircle and blackLcircle in template. Use the Ellipse Select tool to frame within the leftcircle. Go to SELECT>INVERT while on the pose 1 layer and then EDIT>CLEAR. Change opacity to 50.

6. Redo all the above in step 5 but with Lissa pose 2 and on the rightcircle/blackRcircle.

7. Open Paper3 and Paper6 in the kit. Right click on the leftcircle in layers box and choose Alpha to Selection. Click on the Paper3 layer to make it active and add an alpha channel to that layer. Then go to SELECT>INVERT and EDIT>CLEAR. Do this again with the rightcircle in the template with Paper6.

8. With both these circles, I right clicked on them and Alpha to Selection. Then went to SELECT>SHRINK by 5. I created a new layer and used the bucket tool to make it black. I thought it looked really good this way :)

9. Add babyB and daddyB from scrapkit... Resize to at least half their size, and position where you like them.

10. Open as layers Lissa pose 3 and scale to 524 x 534. Place in middle of template on top layer.

11. Add drop shadows to Lissa pose 3, Paper3 and Paper6. I kept it at 8/8/15.

12. I used a font called Fishbowl for the name on my tag. I typed it in white, grew by 1, filled the new layer with black, filled by 2 and filled it with yellow. I added noise by going to FILTERS>NOISE>RGB NOISE and 20/20/20/0. I also added a drop shadow and kept it at 8/8/15.

13. When using the Lissa poser, part of the TOU in the kit say to always credit the artist. SO DON'T FORGET TO ADD YOUR COPYRIGHT INFO!

Hope you enjoyed the Gimp tutorial. I'd love to see your go at it!! My email can be found on the right side of my blog, or just leave me a link to view it.

Thanks so much for checking out this tutorial :) xoxox

Forum Set Tutorial with Celinart Pinup

No kit is needed for this set.

I used the tube "My Panties" by Celinart, which you can purchase at My PSP Tubes HERE.

Let's get started with the banner.

1. Open up a new image- size 600 x 250.

2. Bucket fill with black, then go to FILTERS>ARTISTIC>APPLY CANVAS and choose the bottom right option with depth of 4.

3. Add new layer and fill with black. Right click and choose Alpha to Selection. Go up to SELECT>SHRINK by 10.

4. Add new layer and fill with a red shade- I used the color picker tool and got the color from the tube but almost any shade of red will work great. Next, right click on that layer in layers box and choose Alpha to Selection. Then go up to SELECT>SHRINK by 8. Then go to FILTERS>NOISE RGB NOISE and keep the settings at 20/20/20/0.

5. Open your tube. Make another copy of it by clicking the duplicate layer button in layers box. Then make the copy invisible because you will work with it in the next step. On the active tube layer, flip it and position under the black frame layer you made in step 3. Move the opacity slider in layers box to 30.

6. Make that layer of the tube visible again... and go to LAYERS>SCALE LAYER to 342 x 749. When I scale an image, I usually go very little bits by bits so that the images stays in the viewing area and just to make sure I didn't scale it too far down. Duplicate this layer and flip the copy. Make sure these layers are under the black frame layer you made in step 3.

7. Add a new layer. Take the rectangle select tool and make a rectangle from the left side to the right... fill with the same red color as before, or any shade of red you prefer. Move it under the two tubes but above the one in the background. Change the opacity to 29.

8. Use the text tool to create a black dotted line all the way across the rectangle. I just used the period to do this... You can space it out so it's at the top and bottom of the rectangle by line spacing selection while typing it out. Or if it's easier duplicate it and position the copy where you want it and merge the 2 layers together.

9. Use the text tool to create another text layer. I wrote the word kiss over and over to fill the top side of the rectangle. Then wrote the word this and spaced it out so it fit perfectly over the dotted line. I used the font called TOOTLEBUG. Make sure this layer is under the tube layers...

10. Write in your name with your font of choice. I used a black Berlin Sans FB Bold. Then added a new layer. I right clicked on the black text layer and chose Alpha to Selection. Then went up to SELECT>GROW by 2. Click on the new layer and fill it with a pink color from the tube.

11. DON'T FORGET TO INCLUDE YOUR COPYRIGHT INFORMATION ON YOUR TAG. This usually includes the copyright sign, the artist's name, their website, and any license numbers.

12. Save your work but don't close it...

Let's make that avatar. It is pretty easy now that you have the banner done. Delete your text layers of your name and then just crop out a good size rectangle. Add a new layer with the black and another with the red, like you did in step 3 & 4. Scale the image by going to IMAGE>SCALE IMAGE to an appropriate avatar size (mine is roughly 200 x 200). Then add your text layer over again like you did in step 10. For the copyright information, most just ask to have their name, not their website listed, as well as license numbers to use their art. So don't forget to include this in your avatar...

Hope you had fun! I'd love to see anything you've made using this tutorial, feel free to send it to my email- which is listed in my TOU :) xoxox
